The portrait is stunning and well set off by its' odd dimensioned frame!

I looked more closely at the tree I referenced in my earlier comment... the leaves look more like a magnolia to me now. I didn't realize they have them in DC. God, I sure enjoy your eye.

Thanks! THis is one of my favorite paintings. It is oil on a found piece of wood.

And I think you are right, that tree might very well be a Magnolia. Imagine the flowers?

Magnolias grow here in the D.C. area, but hard winters set them back.

But when we have mild winters, the blooms are outstanding. And the scent!
